Introduction. The current direction of modern medicine is the development of new methods for non-invasive diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases, in particular, Parkinson's disease. The goal of the investigation was the comparative analysis of α-synuclein and Аβ42 peptide expression in substantia nigra and buccal epithelium of elderly and old patients with and without Parkinson's disease. Methods. The objects of the morpho-functional investigation were the authopsy material of substantia nigra and biopsy material of buccal epithelium of elderly and old patients. All people were divided into 2 groups: without brain pathology and with Parkinson's disease. α-synuclein and Аβ42 peptide expression were registered by immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry methods. The analysis of samples was done with the use of invert confocal microscope Olympus and software Vidеotest Morphology 5.2 for the area and optical density of the molecule expression. Results. α-synuclein and Аβ42 peptide expression in the substantia nigra of elderly and old patients with Parkinson's disease was 23–30 times higher in comparison with persons without neurodegenerative pathology. α-synuclein andАβ42 peptide expression in buccal epithelium of elderly and aged patients with Parkinson's disease was 6–16 times higher in comparison with persons without neurodegenerative pathology. Conclusion. Thus, immunocytochemical study of α-synuclein and Aβ42 peptide expression in buccal epithelium can be an easily available non-invasive method for diagnosing Parkinson's disease in elderly and aged people.
