FEATURES OF EXPRESSION OF SEX STEROID HORMONES RECEPTORS IN PELVIC ENDOMETRIOSIS
Introduction. Changes of steroid hormone receptors take an important place in the pathogenesis of endoemtriosis. Literature data about
estrogen receptor-alpha (ERα) in this disease is contradictory.
The aim of our study was to determine the expression of ERα and progesterone receptors (PR) in endometrioid lesions and eutopic
endometrium of women with endometriosis.
Methods. The examination included laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, during which endometrioid heterotopias were excised and
endometrial biopsy was performed in women with endometriosis and endometrial biopsy was performed in healthy women for the following
histological and immunohistochemical study.
Results. The main group in the study included 36 women with endometriosis, control group included 12 healthy women. The expression of
ERα and PR were shown to be appreciably reduced in endometrioid heterotopias versus this characteristics in endometrium of healthy women.
Conclusion. the decreased expression of ERα and PR in endometrioid lesions and eutopic endometrium of women with endometriosis
may serve as the mechanism of the resistance of the diseases to hormonal treatment and the recurrence of the disease.
