COMMON DISEASE: ROLE OF GENETIC FACTORS AND NUTRIENTS

In this brief review there are considered possible reasons for the spread of disease of the multifactorial nature in modern populations from standpoints of the discordance between evolutionary formed genetic diversity and rapidly changing environmental factors (in particular, dietary habits). The data on the genetic associations with a level of a number of nutrients in the human organism are provided. In more details there is analyzed the role of magnesium deficiency in the formation of multifactorial diseases and genetic mechanisms of magnesium homeostasis. There are presented data about the presence of associations of genes involved in maintaining of homeostasis of magnesium in the organism, with diseases caused by magnesium deficiency. The conclusions are made about the importance of establishing the role of geneenvironment relationships (relating to nutrients), for development of programs of individual prevention of common diseases.
